an ode to Laos

Preface
Even though we had a lot of fun in Laos, somehow it didn't live up to all the hype...and here I would like to express my feelings in poetic verse

Oh Laos,
With your mediocre food,
And your treacherous routes,
Vomiting often described my mood.

LP lied and few locals smiled,
Or even disguised
The giant dollar signs,
They thought each tourist arrived with.

At least fellow travelers we met,
Were the best of them yet,
Though I should mention this was true of the scenery.

Maybe we stayed on the well trodden path every day,
And should have strayed farther to see more.
But bombies galore,
New friends we adored
And the costs that felt like redrum,
Meant straying too far became quite the conundrum.

Oh Laos,
How did you earn a reputation so firm,
That makes people yearn for another visit?
Maybe its the abundance of Lao-lao

Goodbye winding roads,
And weather that blows,
I'm packing away my sweatshirt.

Goodbye diarrhoea
Hello Cambodia.
I just can't wait to meet ya (again).
